Short-Term Running Goals:

Have not seriously raced since 2005, but just run for fun while gettting over several injuries.  Goal is to get back my fitness and not get re-injured.  I am much older now and recovery takes a bit longer.  Goals for 2011, besides staying healthy:

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would love to do a 50 miler, plus get back to running a marathon in the 3 hr + range, but need to get running healthy again.

Personal:

Married with two grown boys.  One has embraced running and the other is a snowboard fanatic.  My profession, I am a computer analyst and geek.  After hours, I am a fitness nut who also enjoys reading and hanging out with my family.

Ran from the office up City Creek to the guard shack.  Very social run.  Ran into some friends and chatted while running.  Thats the good and bad about this course.  4.6 miles 38:17.  7:00 pace the last 2 miles.

Planned to do 400s at West High, so ran from the office over to the track (1.55) miles.  The track was full of students walking around the track, so I opted to run east up behind the LDS Conf center towards the capitol and Gravity hill.  Continued up towards the guard shack.  Lots of climbing!  Not sure on pace for this part, just enjoyed the day.  Then ran down from the guard shack to memory grove, to state street and back to work.  Last 2.5 @ 7:00 pace.  Focused on turnover while listening to Podrunner.

So I planned on running 6x.25 at Liberty Park using my GPS interval feature (love it!), but left the GPS at home.  Boo.  Opted to go by time, but that ended up being slightly long too.  Lets just say it was 1:45 fast with equal recovery.

Park was gorgeous.  Blossoms, soccer players, smell of barbecues, and even the pond is getting back in shape after the oil spill last year.

Ran easy 4ish miler from home, thru Lagoon trails and back.  Temps were warmer than we are used to (70s), but it felt good to me! Time was 34:05.

Also did Pilates Reformer class this morning.  Wondering if I will be sore tomorrow?

Met Anna D. at Einsteins on S. Temple in SLC and ran up into City Creek Canyon.  Basically we ran 6 miles one way, turned around, and went back.  We opeted to run back on S. Temple vs. the Aves so it was slightly longer on the way back.  We ran an easy pace (9:00s up and 8:30s down), so it was a nice conversational pace.  Great run.

Saw deer and a weird guy wearing camiflage clothes riding a bike with a rifle.  I think he was hunting?  Also heard there was a cougar carcass on the trail right below Upper Rotary park.

Nice Mother's Day, although Abbie (the daschie) woke us up at 5:30 to go outside and we couldnt get back to sleep so we got up and went for an early morning walk, did a bit of yard work, then enjoyed yummy blueberry pancakes. Going for a short hike next.

Ran 3 miles on the tm at work at lunch.  Swamped but squeezed this in.  Warmed up for 5 mins then increased speed by .2 every min until reached 8.5 mph.  Did this twice.

Ran another 4.2 after work thru Lagoon trails.  Nice.  33:22.

Did 6x400 @ West High Track.  All were 97 sec, except the last one which was 92 sec.  First track outing since last summer and felt great to open up the pace!

More rain, so decided to pack a Redbox DVD under my Gortex jacket and run to return it and see how it went.  Felt good and the rain let up, so continued on and explored the new Rio Grande trail in West Farmington.  Nice, new asphalt trail which traverses thru West Farmington and its SHADED!  Ran about 8:00 pace.

Horrid night of sleep last night.  Fire on the side of the mountain, so we were up and couldnt get back to sleep.  Decided to make myself run again today by running my errands.  Ran to the Post Office (2 miles) then off to the Farmington and Rio Grande trails.  Very nice day, but very tired.  Just ran for fun.  Ran out to where my Garmin said 4.66 then turned around and ran home.  It was slightly shorter back so hence the 9 miles.  I think I slogged thru 8:20 pace.

Ran a super easy 4 mile shakeout run.  I have been really sore since doing weights Friday, so left my watch at home and ran for fun.  Beautiful morning, before the rain hit, and enjoyed the trails behind Lagoon.

 Did Yoga for strength after work.  Amazingly, my hips and hamstrings felt awesome after this!

Met Rachel at Canyon Sports in Riverdale planning to run on the parkway, but it was flooded about a mile into it, so we turned and went back and ran the other way.  I messed up my GPS, but Rachel's watch said 56 minutes, so I am guessing about 6.6 miles.

Met my running buddy Kil at the Capitol and ran to West High for our warmup (about a mile?).  We then decided to run 4x800 and being that we are both just getting back into speed work and do not have any races to predict paces from, decided to run 1:45/lap.  Pace felt really good, almost easy.  I think this is about 7:00 pace.  Decided to run 2x400 after.  1:33, 1:29.  I am starting to get back into the groove.  Hope this holds out for the race on Saturday!
